Hi, I’m Beth, and I’m credentialed to provide supervision for residents in counseling in Virginia. I specialize in working with school counselors who are pursuing their LPC credentials.
With my background as a former school counselor and my current role as a licensed professional counselor, I bring a wealth of experience that can help you grow on your way to becoming a licensed professional counselor.
LPC Residency Requirements:
- Supervised Residency
You need to complete 3,400 hours of supervised counseling practice. This includes working with different populations, dealing with various clinical issues, and using different theoretical approaches.
- Face-to-Face Client Contact
Out of the 3,400 hours, 2,000 hours must be spent in direct contact with clients. If your graduate internship included more than 600 hours, you could count up to 300 extra hours towards this requirement, provided these hours were completed after 30 graduate semester hours.
- Supervisory Sessions
You must complete at least 200 hours of supervision sessions. For every 40 hours of work experience, you need 1 to 4 hours of supervision. Half of these 200 hours can be in group supervision. If your internship supervision was by an LPC, up to 20 hours can count towards these 200 hours.
- Residency Duration
Your residency should last between 21 months and four years. If you started before August 24, 2024, you must finish by August 24, 2028. If you need more time, you must submit an extension request with a valid reason.
